Research residencies

The first steps towards the publication of documents relating to the Temporal family on the PAM and research into the history of this family, a project which has received support from the DGCA’s Research Division.

This artist-in-residence programme is taking place as part of the DGCA’s research programme, for which Renaud Robert was awarded a grant in 2020, with the support of the Institut International de la Marionnette. It will culminate in the production of a virtual version of the exhibition *Haut les bras !* on the Portal of Puppetry Arts (PAM).

The Temporal family were already at the heart of the exhibition *Haut les bras!*, created in 2019 during the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes, after Renaud Robert had seen Marcel Temporal’s puppets in 2016. Marcel Temporal and his son Jean-Loup are therefore central to this exhibition, but they are also very important to the Institute, as the Documentation Centre was established thanks to a donation of documents by Jean-Loup Temporal.

Research to support the translation of Christian Carrignon’s book “Le théâtre d’objet” into English.

Research as part of a PhD thesis on the history of Argentine puppetry between the 1940s and 1960s and its cross-disciplinary aspects (particularly its links with cinema).

Research into the history of Israeli puppet theatre, in a country where there is no established tradition, unlike in Europe.

Applied research residency with part of his team as part of his ‘Dark Matter’ research project, supported by the ICiMa Chair as part of the ‘Materials Life Cycle’ programme.

Research into robots, automated machines, animated sculptures and the relationship between humans and machines, for the creation of his show “MAGH*”, which combines dance and robotics.

Development of a protocol for creating puppet-making tutorials, production of a number of examples, and publication on the PAM as part of the ICiMa Chair’s ‘Materials Life Cycle’ project, in collaboration with Noémie Géron and Fleur Lemercier.

As part of her Master’s degree, she is conducting research into the relationship between puppets and puppeteers, and into the illusion of life in the puppet.

The first steps in work on his illustrated alphabet book, with a view to publication on the PAM, supported by the ICiMa Chair as part of the ‘Multilingual Terminology’ project.
