Presentation

The École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette – Margareta Niculescu (founder of ESNAM) is a unique school in France, entirely dedicated to the initial training of puppeteers since its creation in 1987. It is at the heart of the Pôle International de la Marionnette – Jacques Félix, which brings together initial and continuing training, research, heritage, creation, mediation and dissemination. It is made up of a class of sixteen students recruited by competitive examination every three years.

ESNAM is accredited by the French Ministry of Culture to deliver a 3-year program and the Diplôme National Supérieur Professionnel de Comédien (DNSPC), specializing in actor-puppeteers. A link with the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA) means that the “Arts, Artistic Practice: Puppetry” degree can be awarded at the same time.

ESNAM is open to students who have passed a competitive examination, and enables them to study with artists from all over the world who are recognized in their disciplines. The aim is to master the fundamentals of contemporary puppetry, while developing each student’s own artistic language.

The school provides privileged access to a documentation and research center dedicated to the puppetry arts, the only one of its kind in the world.

Professional integration programs, support from the artistic network, personalized coaching and internships in cultural structures and companies give graduates the best possible insight into the professional world.
