The Institut International de la Marionnette, a French institution with an international vocation, was founded in 1981. Its creation has gone hand in hand with a profound and lasting evolution of the arts of puppetry.

This place of encounters, teaching and reflection develops its activities in service of training, research and documentation. Its singular history and the diversity of its missions make it the only establishment of its kind in France and a reference centre whose expertise is recognised worldwide.

Merger: The Institut International de la Marionnette and the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes are getting closer in order to constitute the reference center of the puppetry arts. It will bring together all the components of the puppetry sector by 2025: higher and continuing professional training, research-innovation, heritage, creation, distribution, artistic and cultural mediation.
