For sixty-four years, the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes (FMTM) has been a unique artistic and cultural event, combining artistic excellence with a spirit of conviviality. Celebrating the diversity of aesthetics and cultures every two years, the FMTM welcomes 155,000 enthusiasts every year: artists, creators, researchers, programme managers from all over the world, journalists and, of course, festival-goers of all ages and backgrounds!
The 23rd edition of the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes in Charleville-Mézières took place from Friday, September 19, to Sunday, September 28, 2025.
This year, artists from Bangladesh, Canada, China, Chile, the United States, Iran, Israel, and Taiwan, alongside the rich diversity of French and European puppetry took over the city’s theaters, halls, and public spaces. A special Baltic focus will highlight creations from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia (Latvia Puppet Theatre, Kaunas Puppet Theatre, Vilnius Theatre Lele…).
Among the 91 performances in the official program, notable participants included Plexus Polaire – Yngvild Aspeli, Kaori Ito, Les Anges au Plafond, L’Étendue – Renaud Herbin, Théâtre du Mouvement – Claire Heggen, Point Fixe – Christian Hecq & Valérie Lesort, Le Printemps du Machiniste, Lone Wolf Tribe, Hotel Modern, Gare Centrale – Agnès Limbos, Blick Théâtre, Moussoux-Bonté, and Compagnie Trois-6ix-Trente – Bérangère Vantusso.
As in every edition, a playful and festive program, accessible to all, took place on Place Ducale.
