From 12 November to 11 December at the University Library La Ruche / University of Poitiers

This exhibition, designed and produced by the Pôle international de la Marionnette, explores the preservation of puppet shows based on the donation made by François Lazaro (Clastic Théâtre), through 33 photographs and 34 objects.

How can we preserve the memory of an artistic creation? What should be included in archives of the performing arts? What traces should be kept to bear witness to an artistic intention, a creative gesture, or a spectacular performance that is by nature ephemeral?
These questions are central to any conservation effort.
We invite the public to explore these questions and the answers we can offer, based on a specific case study.

The exhibition echoes the third part of the international symposium “Gestures and Processes in Puppetry Arts” on the subject of “Gestures of Resuscitation: Caring for Puppets”, which will be held in Poitiers from 12 to 14 November, in partnership with the laboratories of the Universities of Strasbourg and Poitiers. Organised by Oriane Maubert and Shirley Niclais with Marie Garré Nicoara..

Delphine Bois, archivist in charge of the Pôle’s collections, has been invited to speak on “Photographic campaigns in a conservative institution such as the Pôle International de la Marionnette – Jacques Félix: between museum objects and live performance”.
