To celebrate its 40 years of extraordinary artistic and educational adventures in the service of puppetry arts, the Institute also wished to entrust capturing this adventure in singular imagery to a sensitive witness. Christophe Loiseau, photographer born in the Ardennes and companion to the Institute for more than thirty years, accepted the challenge with enthusiasm.
Since 1993, I have been entrusted with the realization of portraits of the students of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette at the end of their studies. At their side I have developed uninterrupted research on performance. During all these years, I have been able to enjoy real freedom, allowing me never to freeze a form, always to look for the balance point between content and form. In this book, created for the Institute’s 40th anniversary, I would like to gather together some of the most striking images of this adventure.
